funny how a quick question can still cause such deep thinking from your readers...not haha funny but strange funny, you gotta a good group of readers here :D
I think three...and two...I share it with Hubby but only if he's ready to hear it ;p

Jen..hubby is a good person to start with, how about other people?

well, guess what i completely agere on whatever yu wrote abt women beings :)

:)

i esp loved yur niece part :) [ so like women to point out details of wat she likes more :D]

but at the end truth remains that many a times the communication thing doesn't happen oh-so-openly!

but i also think that men can talk i mean blabber no-stop as well... abt sweet nothings on phone to a girl [ thats an e.g.]

abt eye contact! dnt think so :) i think i have met many who look u in the eye and talk! and those who dnt...[both men/women] are not trust-worthy :) [thats my belief!]

hahha veens..I love the phraze.."women beings"..
oh she does...I like listening to kids..they have lovely imagination.
well really?..so how would you define sweet nothings :)
hmm eye contact..may be I have not been fortunate..personally I generally do not look in the eye when I speak..

At 88, I have many regrets but the regret I most regret? The lack of real communication between my husband, he died December 1993, and me. I believe the poem I wrote is still on my blog. A line I repeated? We never really talked things out. I think that is what is at the base of most misunderstandings between husband and wife.

Mary..
why does this happen..this intrigues me, why do we keep things to ourselves..I think I am gonna think more on that

Good! You have come up on this! :)

I don't believe about this study which revealed that women speak 20000 words and men about 7000 words. I don't know how Brizendine carried out this study. I have heard about many studies where it is shown that number of words spoke by both men and women are comparable. But these studies were carried out on university students. May be it holds true for young genrations! I think that study came in light so much because somewhere culturally we also think tht way!

Oh did not know that the study was done in the university..but somehow I do think that even if this was done at a different age group too, in terms of number of words/sentences woman might be more than men.

Women wants to be understood, so may be for this they are more expressing. For eye contact, it is true.........I also think we Indians lack in making eye-contact. Even in my company also, I have seen many people when talk to employees who are from outside India, they don't make much eye contact. It is more when conversation is between men and women.

Well I believe both men and women want to be understood, but women are far more expressing, and detailed in their communication. Hmm I think even when men and men converse there is no eye contact

I don't think so, men use facial expressions! But there is something in their behavior.........I don't know which word to use..........and I feel we women are good at this. Thats why, we can make out many times what's going in other's mind. May be God has given us the power. But don't think that I biased.
About touching, I feel men and women are alike.

This I am curious..may be as I said before men do not notice other's facial expression..would try to see if it is really true..If I do have some facial expressions :D.. Hmm do you think that men and women value the touch similarly..I would be surprised.

I never felt that communication can differ according to gender. May be in our culture we have inclined ourselves to think on this. Everytime I have talked to my friends (both girls and boys), I never felt this differene.

Chalo, now it has become tooooooooooo long! I will stop here!

Keep posting here and may you pursue many pure pursuits. Bless You!
~Namaste~ Nidhi

You've made some good personal observations that i also agree with re: this report. One example, I agree with you totally, re: interupting, I know more women than men, guilty of that one. I'm including myself in this, sad but true, but I am trying to curb this bad and rude habit.

One thing I do agree with that they said initially, most men I've known do indeed talk a lot less than women. It's one of the things about men that can be so frustrating, trying to get them to 'open up'. in that respect, I thought this article was spot on.

hey thanks for the insight..Hmm really I am surprised, I thought many Indians interrupt usually not so much with westerners while talking.
well I feel people generally don't open up, even women, they might talk a little more but not open up..if you know what I mean

The article seems to have got most of it right, with the exception of the eye contact.
You are right, we do not do that much here.
Again, regarding crossing legs, I usually do that even in meetings with some general managers, more for comfort than for showing any kind of supremacy.
Can't argue with the talking part, but I do know some men who can out-talk women any day on the phone :D

CR, hmm yep I have seen many women, and men cross legs..Its like that awkard feeling I have not knowing where to keep my hands when talking lol...we end up crossing legs almost like default.
hmm haven't come across many a men who speak more on phone though :)
